  i have a tenant, who is a single mother of two in her mid 20's.

  i found out the other day that she and her children are studying with the witnesses.

  i felt compelled to tell her that i too was an unbaptised publisher but had researched the religion just weeks before baptism.

  You can't do any more than you've already done. People believe what they want to believe and when they've had enough they will find the way out on their own. The info is available for any who want to look it up. She must be getting some sort of payoff from studying and associating with the witnesses that is keeping her hooked.

  I think it was very caring of you to even go to the trouble of buying the books for her and bringing them to her. She obviously is not interested in hearing the other side. Perhaps she has been warned about you. Let it be or you will just come off like a rabid apostate! Save your books for the next opportunity. Who knows, it may be her coming back in a few years asking you if you still have them?

  Are there not enough anti-Witness books out there?

  every once in awhile i will read comments about someone thinking a new anti-witness book needs to be written, to expose something.

  well, recently i took the time to look over the search engines of the internet and found something interesting.

  when you type in "jehovah's witness" or "watchtower", you found almost 3 to 1, negative sites and information on the witnesses.

  I would have to agree with you there Free2bme. I think the only 2 groups of people that find the subject of Jehovah's Witnesses fascinating are ex-Jehovah's Witnesses and Jehovah's Witnesses themselves.

  So, I don't know if we really need anymore books from ex-Jehovah's Witnesses anymore than the world needs any more awakes or watchtowers. Yet they still keep printing them! How many different ways are there to say the same thing?

  However, I do think that the process of writing these books can be cathartic to those who do and can be a useful part of the healing process. They are also written from the writers experience and will perhaps supply a fresh perspective that may touch the heart and motivate one reader while another writer may do the same for someone else. So, there's no harm in it and it may be of help to someone. If we personally have read enough of them to satisfy ourselves, then we don't need to read another.

  congregations disbanded

  not sure if it is the correct terminology, but i've heard of a few instances where the society had to step in and completely "delete" a congregation because of issues with incompetent elders and out of control publishers.

  i've never heard specifics.

  does this actually happen?

  cognizant dissident, I have a theory that the combination of understanding Greek and being honest naturally leads to apostasy. LOL Underbeliever: That's a very clever theory. Here's an exception. In another congregation, I would go out in service with a Greek speaking sister and whenever we got in a discussion about John 1:1 and the correct translation she would tell the householder she spoke Greek and understood the original meaning. So, either the Witnesses had that one right or she wasn't very honest. Cog

  I think Gumby is a splinter group from an acient pagan cult of stone polishers. Their rituals involved many strange customs such as spending inordinate amounts of time polishing their sacred stones for religious ceremoies and sacrifices. They also used other symbols in their worship such as upright poles with polished stones suspended from them. When not in use, these ancient peoples used to carry their sacred stones in little pouches for safekeeping. Some think the Mason's also splintered off from this ancient cult, but there is no direct evidence to support this.

  Special Campaign announced for September: Creation vs. Evolution

  we had a boe letter read recently.

  the september 2006 awake will be 100% dedicated to the "creation vs. evolution" issue.. even the "young people ask" article will be something like "how can i defend my belief in creation in school?

  also, i think one of the articles is entitled "does the bible support the notion that the earth was created in 6 24-hour days?".

  keep trying to get to your meetings remember the sister who walked 2 hours one way to feast at the spiritual banquet , or the bro who crossed crocodile infested waters to get to his meeting.. anyone remember any other guilt trip inducing illustrations?

  From a circuit assembly a few years ago: Brothers and sisters, consider the experience of sister Lives In A Shoe. She has 12 children to look after and get to meetings. Yet she still manages to pioneer full time! If she can do it surely you can pioneer too!

  Here's one from a CO's visit a few years back: Brother and Sister Materialistic decided not to go out in Service one Saturday morning. Instead they went shopping at the local mall, just like the rest of the Canaanites. They left their two children home unsupervised. The children decided to cook their own breakfast and the house caught on fire and the children were burned to death. Oh, if only they had been out in service as a family that morning, this whole tragedy could have been avoided! (I was a dyed in the wool faithful JW when I heard that one and it made me pukin mad then!)

  My all time personal favorite, from a more recent CO's visit: Brother slacker and brothers Faithful were delivering literature across a military checkpoint in some iron curtain war torn country. The whole group were told to take their publisher's record cards with them for identification as JW's. (WTF? My bullshit radar has immediately gone off at this point in the story) At the military checkpoint, the guards ask to see their i.d. and they present their record cards. Not only do the guards know what the hell a record card is, but they also know how to read one and judge the brothers on their hours. Amazing! Poor brother Slacker only had 2 hours on his card and the guards ask him why he only has 2 hours last month. (A better question might be why would the guard care?) Brother Slacker gives the guards some lame ass excuse like he was in the hospital or his children were burned to death in a fire! (see above) Not buying this, the guards took him aside and beat him to a bloody pulp for not being a better JW. (Bullshit sirens are now screaming in my head at the improbability of this scenario!). Then the CO says, "brothers and sisters, the elder's can't stand at the back and beat you as you leave the KH because you have low hours (said in a tone of voice implying they would like to because you deserve it but unfortunately, the law forbids us), however, we can all see the danger inherent in being a low hour publisher! (Well of course! It's so obvious!)

  I had to stop myself from laughing out loud during this experience. My family got an earful on the way home though. I should really thank this CO. I believe this encouraging experience was instrumental in helping me to realize that they are just MAKING THIS CRAP UP as they go along!

  When I was a child, I came home from school one day and found my mother crying. One of our family's closes friends, and elder, had been disfellowshipped. He was an elder in the Greek speaking congregation in Vancouver. They disfellowshipped or removed all the elders for apostasy and disbanded the entire congregation, reassigning any faithful publishers to surrounding congregations.
